Those who have paid attention to politics at any time in their lives have surely heard at least one lie from a politician. But what happens to the morale of the American people when the leader of the free world wants to pass Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) legislation and repeatedly makes a guarantee about it that turns out not to be true?

Was it a political lie when President Barack Obama said that if you like your insurance policy you can keep it; if you like your doctor, you can keep him?

There’s an old saying that you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. Continue reading The Truth of Health Care Law Is Plain To See

Down to the Wire on the “Co-ed Potty Law”

Patriots!

We are sweating bullets as the signature collection effort to repeal the co-ed bathroom law approaches its deadline to turn in signatures. This week, we have received emails from PrivacyforallStudents.com, the group running the petition effort, that churches are surging across the state this weekend to collect signatures. The communication stressed that every signature counts.

PrivacyforallStudents needs almost 505,000 valid signatures to qualify for the November 2014 ballot. Because of incorrectly signed petitions, the group estimates it needs about 725,000 signatures to qualify.

Mom: If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you do the same?

You: Duh, no. (Thinking: I’ll never say such a stupid thing to my kids.”) Fast forward 25 years. You to your kid: “If your friend jumped off a cliff …? (Thinking: I can’t believe I said that!) Just as you couldn’t stop those words from coming out of your mouth, you also can’t help turning into your parents.

Think about it. Do you find yourself reprimanding your child with your parents’ words? Telling the same stories? Laughing the same way?

The Bible recognized that truth. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) Childhood patterns of behavior are ingrained in our brains as our instinctive modus operandi. I can remember my daughter grousing to me, “I give up! I tried for years not to be your clone and I finally realized I’m just like you.” Continue reading The Way We Were

Our Children Will Thank Us (One Day)

Great News Patriots!

We did it!  We reached our goal of 2014 signatures to repeal the “Co-Ed Bathroom Law.”  We are taking a moment to celebrate, and say a big thank you to all who helped us reach our goal. Each signature is a conversation (and sometimes an emotional and lengthy one with parents upset with this law) so we greatly appreciate your efforts. Continue reading Our Children Will Thank Us

Anarchists! Tea party overlords! Legislative arsonists!

This is just a sample of the invective heard in the hallowed halls of Congress as the house minority leader, the senate majority leader, and the president sling monikers at conservative congressional members, supporters of the tea party philosophy, who advocate for fiscal responsibility.

It is amazing that a non-cohesive group of conservative Americans can arouse such hysteria, name-calling, even antipathy in a whole segment of the media and the political community. Maybe it’s because tea partiers, who are largely made up of the previously silent majority, stand up fearlessly, vocally and very visibly for three simple values: free markets, constitutionally limited government and fiscal responsibility.

It’s Classic Credit Abuse

When one spouse, let’s say the wife, recklessly charges on multiple credit cards resulting in massive household bills, that is fiscal irresponsibility. If the husband persistently protests but she won’t refrain, he may cut up the cards as a last-stop measure against bankruptcy. That’s fiscal responsibility — his attempt to get their spending under control.

If, during a period of great prosperity, a city council, let’s say Redlands, offers unsustainable pension and health care benefits to its employees, while disregarding the long range payables, that’s fiscal irresponsibility.

When citizens plead with the city council to be financially frugal — attempting to keep their hometown solvent — they are being fiscally responsible.

If a state, let’s say California, offers unsustainable pension and health care benefits to its employees resulting in a long range debt of hundreds of billions, and which the governor himself calls a “wall of debt,” that’s fiscal irresponsibility.
