A Thanksgiving Story

Everyone encounters problems. Everyone makes bad choices. Sometimes the two are connected. And sometimes it takes only one person to change another forever.

My mother-in-law, God bless Margarita’s soul, married young and produced a passel of youngsters, eight altogether.

Her first child, Michael, was committed to the Maryland State Hospital when he was only 2 because of devastating cerebral palsy.

Rita’s husband could be relied on to drink his paycheck, leaving little money for groceries.

Picture her in a tiny two bedroom rented row house, so poor that the dingy roadway they lived on didn’t even fully qualify as a street — their address in eastern Baltimore was 5 ½ Street.

Lawmaker Receives 100 Percent Score for Pro-Jobs Votes

SACRAMENTO – In its annual assessment of legislators’ votes during the past year, the California Chamber of Commerce recognized Assemblyman Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, for his perfect record supporting pro-jobs legislation and fighting job killer proposals in 2013.

“To return our economy to full strength, we have to get Californians back to work,” said Assemblyman Morrell. “It’s especially important in the Inland Empire, where in many places, the unemployment rates remain well above the state and national averages. The Legislature needs to make job creation a top priority again and stop passing legislation that only slows down economic growth and investment in our communities.”

Despite President Obama’s insistence that immigration reform be hustled through Congress before the end of the year, John Boehner, Speaker of the House of Representatives, squelched the notion when he said the issue was dead for this year.

“Thank goodness,” thought many in the tea party, who have been focusing their efforts on the repeal of Obamacare. To other groups, however, every day is a day to battle against immigration reform. That puts them in a face-to-face clash with our own Redlands State Senator Bill Emmerson.

Emmerson, along with 14 other California State legislative Republicans, sent a letter to Boehner calling for a vote on immigration reform.

Please Attend the “No Amnesty” Protest in Redlands this Wednesday!

Patriots!

Amnesty is no longer a federal issue after Redlands’ own state Sen. Bill Emmerson signed a recent letter urging California’s Republican congressional delegation to pass amnesty legislation. Emmerson was one of 15 state senators and assembly members to sign the letter.

We will be assisting our good friends in We the People Rising to rally in front of Emmerson’s office in Redlands this Wednesday, Nov. 20, beginning at 9 a.m. Emmerson has agreed to meet with the group about one hour later. Local media has shown interest in covering this event.

Emmerson’s office, 1801 Orange Tree Lane, is just north of I-10 near Nevada Street. Please bring your signs, flags and humor. (Here’s a suggestion for a sign: “What part of ‘illegal’ don’t you understand?”)
