STOP THE 45% [Sam says 55%] REDLANDS WATER RATE INCREASE [and disguised tax increase]

The Redlands City Council approved a whopping 45% [or 55%] (compounded) water rate increase plus a 2.5% yearly sewer rate increase.

Council members Paul Foster, Jon Harrison, Pat Gilbreath and John James approved the 45% [or 55%] rate increase.  Only councilmember Paul Barich voted no.  [Thank you Paul Barich for looking out for Redlands taxpayers and rate payers.]

Government is never expected to be more efficient or effective.  The answer is invariably to extract more money from the people.

******************************

All residents and businesses in Redlands should have received a “Prop 218 notice.”  To block the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase, a majority of property owners mail a written objection.  The Council could have put the 45% [or 55%]  water rate increase on the June ballot so Redlands voters could choose, but the Council chose not to do so because it is more likely the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase will slide through with the Prop 218 notice procedure.

The City’s “Prop 218” notice consists of two pages of tables of numbers that few people will analyze.  The City’s “Prop 218” notice does not mention the percentage increase or include a form to object to the huge 45% [or 55%] water rate increase.

Is the City being open and honest with the people of Redlands?

To stop the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase, we must  mail written objections by March 15, 2016.

A flyer to share with your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers and a form to object to the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase is below.

******************************

The City’s purported reasons for the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase are (1) the City is selling less water because of state-mandated cutbacks and (2) to purportedly fixed the pipes.

However, the West Valley Water District recently rescinded a rate increase and cancelled two scheduled rate increases even though it also is selling less water, and Redlands previously increased water rates to “fix the pipes.”

So what are the real reasons for the whopping 45% [or 55%] water rate increase?

Does the City intend to use money from the whopping 45% [or 55%] water rate increase as a disguised tax increase to fix the purported 100 year flood problem downtown so developers can build high density, tax payer subsidized “stack and pack” housing along the rail where they plan to run 58 trains per day?

In 2014, the City proposed a tax increase to pay for fixing the purported 100 year flood problem.  Public opinion was so overwhelmingly against the tax increase, the City Council did not even put it on the ballot.  Troy Clark from the City planning department said one of the ways to address the flood problem is with larger pipes.

So is part of the whopping 45% [or 55%] rate increase intended to deal with the 100 year flood problem so they can build high density “stack and pack” housing?

Mayor Foster vigorously denied this.  If we cannot trust our government, if we cannot trust Mayor Foster, who can we trust?

Even if Redlands does not intend to use money from the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase as a disguised tax increase to fix the purported 100 year flood problem downtown, the 45% [or 55%] rate increase is not justified.

In the private sector, if our sales decrease, we do not get to correspondingly raise our prices to keep our revenue constant.  We have to find ways to reduce expenses.

******************************

WHAT CAN WE DO?

    • Return the form with the flyer below OBJECTING to the rate increase.  [There is a URL to obtain the assessor parcel number for your property.]
    • TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS (we need a majority of residents to object to the 45% [or 55%] increase or else the rates will increase by default.
    • Make copies of the attached flyer and drop it off at all of your neighbors.
    • Attend Council meetings and tell them what you think of their 45% [or 55%] water rate increase. [first and third Tuesdays, 6:00].
    • Share this post with everyone you can.
    • Remember Pat Gilbreath and John James are up for reelection this year, and they voted to increase our water rates by 45% [or 55%].

Is Donald Trump Conservative [and is that important this year]? published on

Trump 04

IS DONALD TRUMP CONSERVATIVE [and is that important this year]?

Quoting Pat Caddell and others, I have argued this election is not about ideology, it is about insurgency against the corrupt, incompetent, “do as we say not as we do” Ruling Class that is making America less free, less prosperous and less secure.

Ann Coulter wrote this week:
“This is not an election about who can check off the most boxes on a conservative policy list, or even about who is the best or nicest person. This is an election about saving the concept of America, an existential election like no other has ever been.  Anyone who doesn’t grasp this is part of the problem, not part of the solution.”

The other candidates are not exactly paragons of consistency including Ted Cruz who, for examples: (A) voted for ObamaTrade before voting against it, (B) who supported a 5X increase in H-1B visas, (C) who offered an amendment to the Schumer-Rubio amnesty bill to provide for legalization of illegal immigrants [although Cruz claims that was merely tactical], (D) who opposes Donald Trump’s plan to pause Muslim immigration unless and until they can be properly vetted, (E) who opposes Donald Trump’s plan for a “deportation force” to return the illegal immigrants to their home countries, (F) who refuses to say what he will do with illegal immigrants, (G) who voted for the Iran Nuclear Review Act [that enabled all Obama’s Nukes for Iran deal by requiring a 2/3 of both houses to block the deal].

******************************

Leaving aside for this post, (1) Donald Trump’s track record of winning and success, (2) Trump has dominated the campaign spending far less than other candidates, (3) his courage to say what he thinks and take on political correctness and the media, (4) his vitally important ability to control the agenda being discussed, (5) his ability to push back against the media [that Ken Timmerman says is worth 6-8% of the vote], (6) #DonaldTrump is breaking up the existing political structure [that alone is a huge accomplishment], and (7) his crossover appeal to normally Democrat working men and women including blacks,

Let’s examine whether #DonaldTrump is “conservative.”

Donald Trump is campaigning on the following policies:

  1. Securing our border with a wall to stop illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and infiltration of terrorists.
  2. Limiting legal immigration to protect American workers.
  3. Supporting and defending Second Amendment rights.
  4. Ending #CommonCore.
  5. Protecting Christians and Christianity in America and around the world.
  6. Repealing #Obamacare and replacing it with a system of health savings accounts.
  7. Reducing tax rates for most people and businesses and simplifying the tax system. [Ted Cruz has a better tax plan, but no candidate is perfect.]
  8. Protecting American workers from unfair trade practices and bad trade deals. Donald Trump has consistently opposed #ObamaTrade, which allows unlimited “temporary” foreign workers and cedes American sovereignty to a Transpacific Commission like the European Commission.
  9. Strengthening our military in an increasingly dangerous world.
  10. Pausing Muslim immigration unless and until they can be properly vetted.
  11. #DonaldTrump has the courage to call out the #GlobalWarming hoax.
  12. #DonaldTrump wants to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs to take proper care of our veterans.

That all sounds good and conservative to me.

******************************

One can certainly find prior nonconservative statements by Donald Trump, some 10, 15, 20 years ago, and some more recent.  However, in his 1988 interviews linked below, “Republican,” “conservative,” “businessman” Donald Trump sounds remarkably like he does today.

The explicit or implicit assumption of those claiming Donald Trump is not “conservative” is Donald Trump is lying about what he now believes.  You/they could be right, but I do not think so for the following reasons.

–Donald Trump publicly supported and raised money for John McCain in 2008, who was likely to and did lose.

–Prior to running for election, Donald Trump was a businessman headquartered in New York City.  To be successful, he had to get along with the liberal politicians that run the city and state of New York.

–When Donald Trump was primarily focused on his business, I am not sure how much thought he gave to politics beyond the politics of getting his projects built.

–Businesses and business leaders frequently contribute to and hob knob with politicians from both political parties.

–At least as of 2013, Donald Trump was consistently against amnesty.

–Donald Trump’s trajectory over the years has been to become more publicly conservative.

–If Donald Trump was to substantially deviate from his current positions, he would lose most of his current supporters and would not gain very many liberal supporters.  Donald Trump would destroy his brand by doing so.

–While ego is involved to some extent for all politicians, and especially those who aspire to be President of the United States, I believe Donald Trump is running for president primarily because he sees America is in decline and genuinely wants to #MakeAmericaGreatAgain.  To do so, necessarily requires conservative policies.

— I believe Donald Trump when he says “my whole energy, my whole being will be to make our country rich and make our country great again.”

******************************

THEREFORE, GIVEN,

–The dire circumstances for American and Western civilization [four or eight more years of open borders and mass third world immigration may put the country beyond reach for any national or even statewide conservative candidate],

–The need to overthrow the corrupt, incompetent, “do as we say and not as we do” Ruling Class,

–#Immigration is the most important issue because it determines all other issues.

— Donald Trump would be hard pressed to do worse than the current Ruling Class in Washington.

— Merely breaking down the existing political structure may be worth the price of admission.

–Building the wall to stop illegal immigration, drug smuggling and infiltration of Islamist terrorists and Latin American gang members such as MS-13, would be worth the price of admission.

–Donald Trump will not be pushed around or taken advantage of, and I believe under President Trump, America will not be pushed around or taken advantage of.

I am willing to take a chance with Donald Trump.  Donald Trump may well be our last chance to save America.

WHO CAN BEST LEAD THE REVOLUTION AND PATRIOT SPRING?

“A revolution,” Wikipedia says, “is a fundamental change in political power or organizational structures that take place in a relatively short period of time when the population rises up in revolt against the current authorities.”

Quoting Pat Caddell and others, I have argued this election is not about ideology, it is about insurgency against the corrupt, incompetent, “do as we say not as we do” Ruling Class that is making America less free, less prosperous and less secure.

Here is more confirmation in this article from Geert Wilders, a great Dutch Patriot and defender of Western Civilization, who lives under constant death threats from Muslims for speaking out against Islamization of Europe.  [Because of Islamist death threats, Geert Wilders sleeps in a different place every night.]  Geert Wilders also speaks out against the European Ruling Class that is undermining Western Civilization and his country.
http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2016/01/26/the-patriot-spring/

Geert Wilders writes:

–“In Europe and America, revolutions are brewing. They are peaceful and democratic, but they are going to send the elites home that are running our nations into the ground.”

–“We are witnessing America’s struggle to be America, and the struggle of several European nations, among them the Netherlands, Britain, France, Germany and many others to preserve their identity and liberty, to remain the Netherlands, Britain, France, Germany. Everywhere, patriots are on the march. We are living the Patriot Spring.”

Who can best lead the revolution and Patriot Spring in America?

Who is already breaking up the existing political structure and changing the dynamics of politics in America?

UPDATE: 40% Water Rate Increase In Redlands

On January 19, the #Redlands City Council voted 4-1 to raise water rates a staggering 40% and sewer rates 7.5% [and even more when compounded].  Voting for the 40% increase: Paul Foster, Jon Harrison, John James and Patricia Gilbreath.  Voting against the 40% rate increase: Paul Barich.

This stands in stark contrast to the West Valley Water District decrease their water rates.

–Why such a staggering rate increase?

–Are any other cities imposing similar huge rate increases?

–Paying  more for less is #Sustainability in action.  But is there more going on with this staggering rate increase?

Thank you to the Citizen Patriots who turned out: Tressy Capps, Gary Gileno, Bill Miller, Sam Wong, Carolyn Hays, and Greg Brittain.   As always, “The most important political office is that of the private citizen.”

IMPORTANT MEETINGS IN REDLANDS THIS WEEK FOR CITIZEN PATRIOTS

Redlands City Council meeting
Tuesday, January 19, 6:00, Redlands City Hall, 35 Cajon Street
======================================================

The public comment session near the beginning of the meeting is a good opportunity to tell your City Council members what you want your government to do or not do.  In previous meetings Citizen Patriots urged the City Council to oppose settling “Syrian” “refugees” in Redlands at least until they can be properly vetted for possible terrorists; opposed high density housing; and opposed SANBAG’s and the City’s plan to run 58 trains per day through Redlands.

Please join us in urging our City Council to oppose settling purported “Syrian” “refugees Redlands, at least until they can be vetted for possible terrorists.  Please join us in urging our elected officials to put Americans citizens first.

As Ronald Reagan said: “If history teaches anything, it teaches self-delusion in the face of unpleasant facts is folly.”

IN ADDITION, THE REDLANDS CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER RAISING OUR WATER RATES UP TO 45%, COMPOUNDED.

Redlands General Plan Steering Committee
Wednesday, January 20, 6:00, City Council Chamber, 35 Cajon Street.
==========================================================

The City of Redlands is updating its General Plan, which will control what gets built and where for the next 20 years.  Many cities in California and across the country are doing so, and they are trying to implement a top-down agenda of high density and low income housing, restricting single family homes, and making it more difficult to drive.  It is the local version of “sustainability” aka “fundamental transformation.”

The general plan may seem not very interesting, but it is very important to the future of Redlands.

The City’s and SANBAG’s plan to run formerly 50 and now 58 trains per day through Redlands is part of the “transformation.”  If we do not want Redlands to be “fundamentally transformed” including high density (and low income) housing throughout Redlands, restricting single family homes, trying to force us out of our cars, and restricting traffic for those who still drive so it will take more of our time to drive around Redlands, we the people of Redlands need to be involved in the process.

I asked the questions multiple times at general plan meetings:

–“What do we want to change about Redlands?”
–“What does ‘sustainability’ mean?”
–“Are we currently ‘sustainable'”?  If not, what has to change, and who gets to make that decision?

I have yet to hear any answers.

Take a look at the “stack and pack” apartments on Lugonia next to JC Penny [and more are coming] to catch a glimpse of the “sustainable” future.

It is important the as many citizens as possible tell their City Council and government what they want for the future of Redlands.

If we do not want Redlands “fundamentally transformed” with high density and low income housing and forcing us out of our cars, We the People need to be involved in the process.

To paraphrase Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the “sustainability” agenda to triumph is for good Patriots and citizens to do nothing.”
