STOP THE 45% [Sam says 55%] REDLANDS WATER RATE INCREASE [and disguised tax increase]

The Redlands City Council approved a whopping 45% [or 55%] (compounded) water rate increase plus a 2.5% yearly sewer rate increase.

Council members Paul Foster, Jon Harrison, Pat Gilbreath and John James approved the 45% [or 55%] rate increase.  Only councilmember Paul Barich voted no.  [Thank you Paul Barich for looking out for Redlands taxpayers and rate payers.]

Government is never expected to be more efficient or effective.  The answer is invariably to extract more money from the people.

******************************

All residents and businesses in Redlands should have received a “Prop 218 notice.”  To block the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase, a majority of property owners mail a written objection.  The Council could have put the 45% [or 55%]  water rate increase on the June ballot so Redlands voters could choose, but the Council chose not to do so because it is more likely the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase will slide through with the Prop 218 notice procedure.

The City’s “Prop 218” notice consists of two pages of tables of numbers that few people will analyze.  The City’s “Prop 218” notice does not mention the percentage increase or include a form to object to the huge 45% [or 55%] water rate increase.

Is the City being open and honest with the people of Redlands?

To stop the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase, we must  mail written objections by March 15, 2016.

A flyer to share with your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers and a form to object to the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase is below.

******************************

The City’s purported reasons for the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase are (1) the City is selling less water because of state-mandated cutbacks and (2) to purportedly fixed the pipes.

However, the West Valley Water District recently rescinded a rate increase and cancelled two scheduled rate increases even though it also is selling less water, and Redlands previously increased water rates to “fix the pipes.”

So what are the real reasons for the whopping 45% [or 55%] water rate increase?

Does the City intend to use money from the whopping 45% [or 55%] water rate increase as a disguised tax increase to fix the purported 100 year flood problem downtown so developers can build high density, tax payer subsidized “stack and pack” housing along the rail where they plan to run 58 trains per day?

In 2014, the City proposed a tax increase to pay for fixing the purported 100 year flood problem.  Public opinion was so overwhelmingly against the tax increase, the City Council did not even put it on the ballot.  Troy Clark from the City planning department said one of the ways to address the flood problem is with larger pipes.

So is part of the whopping 45% [or 55%] rate increase intended to deal with the 100 year flood problem so they can build high density “stack and pack” housing?

Mayor Foster vigorously denied this.  If we cannot trust our government, if we cannot trust Mayor Foster, who can we trust?

Even if Redlands does not intend to use money from the 45% [or 55%] water rate increase as a disguised tax increase to fix the purported 100 year flood problem downtown, the 45% [or 55%] rate increase is not justified.

In the private sector, if our sales decrease, we do not get to correspondingly raise our prices to keep our revenue constant.  We have to find ways to reduce expenses.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

    • Return the form with the flyer below OBJECTING to the rate increase.  [There is a URL to obtain the assessor parcel number for your property.]
    • TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS (we need a majority of residents to object to the 45% [or 55%] increase or else the rates will increase by default.
    • Make copies of the attached flyer and drop it off at all of your neighbors.
    • Attend Council meetings and tell them what you think of their 45% [or 55%] water rate increase. [first and third Tuesdays, 6:00].
    • Share this post with everyone you can.
    • Remember Pat Gilbreath and John James are up for reelection this year, and they voted to increase our water rates by 45% [or 55%].

There was a great turnout Wednesday evening for the Redlands general plan meeting even with competition from the World Series and Rep debate.

Everyone who spoke did a great job.

The City of Redlands is updating its General Plan, which will control what gets built and where for the next 20 years.

The City’s and SANBAG’s plan to run formerly 50 and now 58 trains per day through Redlands is part of the “transformation.”  If we do not want Redlands to be “fundamentally transformed” including high density (and low income) housing throughout Redlands, restricting single family homes, trying to force us out of our cars, and restricting traffic for those who still drive so it will take more of our time to drive around Redlands, we the people of Redlands need to be involved in the process.

Take control of your City and your government.

As always, “The most important political office is that of the private citizen.” Justice Louis D. Brandeis

To paraphrase Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for our city, state and country to be ‘fundamentally transformed’ is for good citizens to do nothing.”

Here are videos of citizens fulfilling the obligations of their most important political office.

Thank you to Sam Wong and Tressy Capps for videoing and Grindall61 for quickly editing the videos for posting.

“Fundamentally Transforming” Redlands

The City of Redlands is updating its General Plan, which controls what gets built and where.

The “General Plan Update” is about “fundamentally transforming” Redlands including high density (with low income) housing throughout Redlands and restricting traffic making so it will take more of our time to drive around Redlands.

Please take the City’s survey and see for yourself what they have in mind.

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” John Adams

John Adams never met the global warmers.

Human caused global warming is a clear and obvious hoax to anyone willing to spend a modicum of time and willing to honestly look at the facts.

I could and have written lengthy comments summarizing some of the evidence of the global warming hoax.  For today, I offer the following.

FIRST, for 18+ years, there has been no global warming despite increasing CO2 levels refuting the global warmers “theory.”

From ~1940 to ~1978, the climate cooled despite increasing CO2 levels causing the same crowd who now warn of global warming (unless we adopt the leftist political agenda) to warn of a new ice age (unless we adopt the leftist political agenda).

SECOND, this reporter and newspaper again, as they always do, print the latest pronouncements and predictions of the global warmers without question or presenting any contrary information, e.g. no global warming for 18+ years.  [Is that what a reporter and a newspaper should do?]

The MSM never looks back at whether the global warmers’ previous predications came to pass.

Here is just one example, in 2008, ABC predicted New York would be under water by 2015.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/scott-whitlock/2015/06/12/flashback-abcs-08-prediction-nyc-under-water-climate-change-june

THIRD, CO2 is not “dirty” nor “pollution.”  It is harmless to animals and beneficial to plants.

We have done a great job reducing real pollution.  The article confusingly (intentionally?) equates CO2 and global warming with real pollution.

The article also include typical “climate p*#n” pictures like a big, ugly coalmine, which proves nothing.

FOURTH, the article does not explain that “alternative energy” or “renewable energy” or “clean energy” is much more expensive energy.

More expensive energy means a lower standard of living for Americans and keeping poor people poor.

In California, thanks to the global warming law and mandates for expensive alterative energy, Californians pay the highest gas tax in the country including the “cap and trade” tax for global warming.

“California residential electricity costs an average of 35.4% more per kWh than the national average. CA commercial rates are 60.3% higher.  For industrial use, CA electricity is 85.4% higher than the national average (July, 2014)”

http://riderrants.blogspot.com/2012/11/ca-vs-other-49-states-revised-11812.html

While the global warmers do their best to hide the cost, how much are you willing to pay for global warming?

FIFTH, global warming is brought to you by the same people who brought you “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.”

“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Bike Lanes Actually Increase Carbon Emissions – UnIntended Consequences, Again!

Bike Lanes Actually Increase Carbon Emissions – UnIntended Consequences, Again! published on

The automobile is the most dominant form of local transportation in every metropolitan area in both Western Europe and the United States. Environmental city planners neglect that fact by proposing bike lane infrastructure in dense populated urban areas where riding a bike is neither easy nor feasible. Urban planner, Wendell Cox, explains how bike lanes actually increase carbon emissions because of their contribution to slower traffic in urban areas.
